Small Town Girl, Big City Dreams – Designer’s Dream in Van City
05/06/16 What does a girl from Winnipeg do with her dreams of being a fashion designer? Well, move to Vancouver of course! I met Trish while I was working on a film gig here in Vancouver. And as soon as she started talking, there was something familiar about her laugh, her cussing and her sense of humour that reminded me of Amy Schumer. She was from Winnipeg – a homegirl. Right away, she divulged that she was a fashion designer – one who not only designs clothes but also prints. How cool is that?!! I’ve always said that prints are underrated because some consider prints to be “too loud”. It could be because Trish and I came from a city where colorful prints were simply not part of everyday fashion. Black was, for the most part the color of choice by everyone. You couldn’t be caught dead in a fabulous print, unless you were the crazy, loud uncle with the  70’s wardrobe. Thank god, Trish moved to the West coast where one has the freedom to become a designer and create prints that are marketable. Trish has been able to create prints on wearable, stylish pieces that are versatile on […]
Spring Bomber
04/15/16 Spring has got to be my favorite season of the year. Not only because my birthday falls in April but because of what it signifies – a rebirth from the cold Winter season. Flowers start to bloom as the snow melts, the sun shines brighter as the days get longer, and of course, fresh fashion trends start to emerge. It’s a time of renewal – out with the cold and in with the new. People start to do some Spring cleaning in their homes, including cleaning out the closets full of drab, dull colored Winter clothing. In Vancouver, I definitely feel that Spring is in the air. On the streets, the cherry blossoms are a gorgeous pale pink and are almost fully blossomed, while people are already wearing their flip flops. It’s quite a difference from my hometown in Winnipeg where they just had a snowfall…again. In the Fashion world, there’s no limit as to what colours are worn. For 2016, Pantone released it’s color of the year as Rose quartz and Serenity. You will soon see this on the streets if you haven’t already. As Spring trends and colors start to emerge, you can’t help but feel alive! […]
The next chapter…I mean next scene in my life.
04/06/16 Good morning!! I feel like it’s been eons since I’ve written anything down and I apologize. Ever since I moved to Vancouver, I’ve made some career changes in my life, resulting in my moods going wonky and feeling unmotivated to write. But, I’m back. I’ve had to stray away (temporarily) from fashion styling and wardrobe makeovers for awhile until I can get my feet on the ground in a new city, so I turned to my next passion – working in film. Thankfully, this time around, there is plenty of work in the city, which is pretty much why it’s deemed “the Hollywood of the North”. So, I found myself diving in the “not so glamorous” film industry in B.C, as a costumer. And I stress”not so glamorous” because everyone, including me always thought it was. If you think 16 hr days in upredictable weather and lugging racks upon racks of clothing is glamorous, then kudos to you. It may actually sound dreadful but I actually love it. The upside to this is the great pay, meeting all sorts of interesting characters from cast and crew; and I get fed well – all day long. With the unpredictable weather, […]

Let It Go…(Closet Purging)
04/25/15 It’s about that time for Spring cleaning. For alot of us, this includes the annual closet purge. And when you have a closet packed with clothes, cleaning out a closet can be a a daunting task. Most of us hold on to things that can be difficult to let go of, maybe because of its sentimental value or maybe it’s simply too comfortable. It could be that scarf that your aunt gave you and expects you to wear it whenever she visits or that t-shirt you wear for lounging hanging by its last threads.  Or maybe it’s that brand new skirt that you bought 2 years ago and were meaning to wear because you promised yourself you’d lose weight. No matter what it is, you’ve gotta figure out what to let go of and what to keep, if it serves you. When I work with clients, I like to give practical tips on what to keep, what to give away and how to wear and maximize already existing items. Here are a few of my do’s and don’ts of a closet purge: Do’s: Do keep items that are classic, timeless pieces that will last you for many seasons (ex. […]
Rockin’ Rockports!
4/3/15 As I approach my 40’s, (yes I said it), I find myself less concerned about my image and more on how I truly feel. All I want is to be comfortable in my own skin. After all, true beauty starts on the inside right? Of course, being involved in the fashion industry requires me to work on a person’s surface look, but these days, you no longer have to sacrifice comfort for style. Right now, I see fashion trends where wearing Adidas sweats are in, for example. Or leggings as pants, among the teens. Something that I don’t agree with, but that’s another story. But my point is, being comfortable is finally fashionable! Not that I’d wear Adidas pants in my 40’s, but I wouldn’t wear yoga pants in public either. I still have to maintain a level of style, as a wardrobe consultant. For someone who’s on their feet lots, comfort and style go hand in hand. If I can’t walk in the shoes for more than an hour AND look good, then forget about it. As I approach my 40’s, I can honestly say, I’ve become wiser…well, when it comes to developing my own style and owning […]

Sure, it still feels like winter, but as soon as March hits, I’m immediately transported into spring mode and I can’t wait for my favorite season to get here. One of the most important parts of the start of spring is spring-cleaning. Now, I know what you’re thinking: cleaning isn’t fun, it’s a drag. But let me tell you, fashionistas, spring-cleaning is actually the perfect time for a party. If you’re anything like me, your closet is overflowing with clothes, shoes, and accessories. Winter Highs…
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope everyone in Winnipeg is enjoying the mild weather we’re having lately. It’s not -50! I’m not sure if we’re getting -50 back any time soon but I am definitely taking advantage right now. Yes, I’m talking about wearing lighter, less bulker Winter gear. For Christmas, I got a new coat by Minimum(shown here) which is more suitable for Fall/Spring,  but I had to rock it. I think it’s pretty wonderful and perfect for me. In the Winter, I usually choose comfort and practicality over being fashionable. Gone are the days of wearing hot leather booties in the snow with a cute peacoat. Not only is it not practical, it’s also uncomfortable. In -50 cold, I’ll be give me my parka and Sorels any day. What can I say, I’m older and kind of wiser now. Thankfully, these days, it’s only in the late teens and not a ridiculous high windchill. So, out comes the lighter, less bulkier, more fashionable gear. I’m wearing my Minimum coat, which has a fabulous cowl neck, biker zipper and length up to my knees. Again, not too tight, loose enough but stylish. I got this stylish mom thing down. I […]
Hunter wellies? Don’t mind if I do…
As a mom, trying to be stylish and practical can be a fine line to draw. I am always one for style, but ever since I became a mom, I’ve always tried to merge style and practicality in one harmonious outfit. You just have to. It’s just a matter of finding the right balance of style and function. If you’re a mom and you can rock heels while pushing a stroller, then kudos to you. I, for one (although I’ve been known to run in my heels many moons ago),  cannot see the practicality of wearing heels while, pushing a stroller, especially for a long period of time It was only a few years ago that there was a market for stylish moms. Usually, being a “stylish” mom was only afforded to the rich…until now. Thanks to celebrity moms, it’s now more common to see moms in Uggs, Sorels or Hunter rain boots. The latter 2 more practical than the first against weather conditions but still, Uggs provide warmth and comfort. Nevertheless, celebrity moms rockin’ some of these items has made theme popular and fashionable because of their practicality. It wasn’t in the last 5 years that they’ve become more […]
